No Shows & Late Cancellations

What is a “No Show”? A No Show is when a patient is scheduled for an appointment, but does not show up, and does not call to explain or cancel in advance.

A Late Cancellation is a cancellation of an appointment within two (2) business days of the appointment. This short timeframe often does not allow for the appointment to be taken by a different patient.

No Shows & Late Cancellations are a problem in healthcare because they worsen accessibility. A patient who does not show up for his or her appointment, or cancels last-minute, takes an appointment slot that ends up going unused. In addition, the patient needs to get rescheduled and put into another future slot. This increases wait times to get into the Dermatologist.

We strive to keep our wait-times for appointments as short as possible, and our No Show & Late Cancellation Policy serves to limit these behaviors.

Policy

No Show & Late Cancellation Policy:

Our practice is committed to providing timely access to medical care for all patients. When appointments are missed or canceled without adequate notice, it limits our ability to offer those appointment times to other patients who need care. Patients must provide at least two (2) business days' notice to cancel or reschedule any appointment. We understand that unexpected events or illnesses occur and we take this into account when applying the late cancellation policy.

A missed appointment ("no-show") includes:

• Failure to appear for a scheduled appointment.

• Arrival so late that, in the sole discretion of the provider or practice, the appointment cannot be completed as scheduled.

A late cancellation includes:

• Cancellation or rescheduling of an appointment less than two (2) business days before the scheduled appointment time.

The following fees may be assessed:

• General Dermatology Appointment No-Show or Late Cancellation Fee: $75

• Surgical or Cosmetic Appointment No-Show or Late Cancellation Fee: $150

No-show and late cancellation fees are the patient's responsibility and are not billable to insurance. Payment of outstanding no-show or late cancellation fees may be required before future appointments are scheduled or before additional services are provided.

Repeated missed appointments or late cancellations may result in additional scheduling restrictions, including but not limited to the requirement to maintain a credit card on file, prepayment of fees, or dismissal from the practice in accordance with applicable law and practice policies.

Any unpaid balance, including no-show and late cancellation fees, may be referred to a third-party collection agency for collection. Patients remain responsible for all amounts owed to the practice, together with any costs permitted by applicable law.
